This 2009 play was written by the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Dinner with Friends, Donald Margulies. The drama focuses on Sarah and James, a war photojournalist and a foreign correspondent searching for happiness after being scarred, physically and emotionally, while covering Middle East conflicts. Nominated for two Tony awards including Best Play.

Limited tickets are now available through Goldstar for remaining performances - Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and the single remaining 2 p.m. Sunday matinee.

Media Notes:
  • Sun-Gazette: ...does a great job bringing out the strong emotions attached to war coverage and contrasting this with the sane, pedestrian, workaday world in which ordinary people live.
  • Fairfax County Times: desperately searching for a way to be happy again after enduring trauma — physical, mental and emotional — while covering conflict in the Middle East.
  • DC Metro Theater Arts, Terry Byrne: We bear witness to the minefield of their relationship and recovery, against the backdrop of workplace battles and a communal pursuit of happiness.
  • McLean Connection: Time Stands Still is of the "right now," almost ripped from the headlines, as it brings to full life the deep layers, sometimes knotty matters and humor that people face in relationships even as war may surround them.
  • DC Metro Theater Arts -- "There are so many levels, themes and angles, if you will, to continue the photographic tenor of the play."
  • Falls Church News Press "Can you leave behind a turbulent and demanding, but ultimately exciting and rewarding, career for a simpler life?"
Quotes about the play:
  • "A photojournalist and a foreign correspondent trying to find happiness after being scarred, physically and emotionally, covering conflicts in the Middle East."
  • The New York Times said "the heart of Time Stands Still lies in the gently evolving relationship between Sarah and James, which develops troubling new ripples in each scene"
  • "Hobbling around the apartment with a crutch, she (Sarah) draws us into the opaque mind and heart of a character who has made it her mission to document the torment of others while losing sight of her own less consequential anguish."
  • Video interview of Donald Margulies discussing the characters in the Broadway production:
