One of our "MasterWorks." Selected because of its popularity for more than 100 years.
"a sprightly and engaging effort that gives the old play a new shine and focus. "
Toscano, Washington Post
Set in England during the late Victorian era, the play's humor derives in part from characters maintaining fictitious identities to escape unwelcome social obligations. It is replete with witty dialogue and satirizes some of the foibles and hypocrisy of late Victorian society. It has proved to be Oscar Wilde's most enduringly popular play.
