This rendition of the show received Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations for best musical, and became an immediate staple of New York’s holiday tradition, warmly received by audiences for 8 seasons.

From Showbiz radio:
Director Barbara Carpenter’s vision of a non-traditional telling of the traditional story helped keep the production interesting even to those who have seen A Christmas Carol several times.

A Christmas Carol is a Victorian morality tale of an old and bitter miser who undergoes a profound experience of redemption over the course of one night. Mr. Scrooge is a financier/money-changer who has devoted his life to the accumulation of wealth. He holds anything other than money in contempt, including friendship, love and the Christmas season.

Author Charles Dickens’ contemporaries noted that the story’s popularity played a critical role in redefining the importance of Christmas and the major sentiments associated with the holiday. MCP’s production is sure to warm hearts and be an important part of this holiday season!
