From the
Washington Post:
"Favoring theme over story, it is a challenging show to make accessible to general audiences. Professional companies in the area have struggled and mostly failed to develop a compelling atmosphere onstage with the delicate material, but the McLean group generally succeeds."
The Secret Garden is about a young girl, Mary Lennox, who, upon the deaths of her parents, is sent away from her home in India to live with her distant, often absent uncle Archibald Craven in his Yorkshire, England manor.
Shortly after arriving, the spoiled, sullen girl discovers an old, abandoned garden and gradually she morphs into a spirited, healthy and kind child. With the help of a local boy whose sister works in the manor, she is able to transform
the secret garden to a place filled with beauty and life.
Along the way she uncovers many other secrets as well, and the roses in the garden are not the only inhabitants of the Yorkshire property to grow and improve as a result. This is a thoroughly "family friendly" show.
