From 1998 to 2001 I was employed at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences as an Exhibit Designer. This was an exciting time at the museum as we were involved in building the new four-story museum. I was involved in many aspects of designing the new exhibits, including coordinating graphics and artifacts, art-directing illustrators, designing case layouts, managing taxidermy, and ensuring scientific accuracy of exhibits.

Tropical Connections
I coordinated the graphics and artifacts for the North Carolina Tropical Connections Hall. This Hall served to show important biological and cultural connections that exist between North Carolina and the Tropics.

This image shows the biodiversity tubes that indicate the relative number of species in various taxonomic groups.

This interactive display allowed viewers to learn about pollution. Each kiosk presented a question about pollution and contained an image and an artifact. To read the answer, the viewer had to turn the kiosk.

Whale Project
During my time at the museum I also participated in re-articulating a sperm whale and a right whale for exhibit.
The sperm whale is shown above.

The image to the left shows the right whale hanging in the Coastal Exhibit Hall.

This image shows the same right whale disarticulated.

Other Projects
This image shows the entry portal to the museum. I helped design the layout for the etched glass animals surrounding the portal.

This section of the Mountains to the Sea exhibit educated the public about underground life in North Carolina. I helped design this exhibit.

I also aided in art directing the illustrators for the Prehistoric North Carolina Hall. This interactive exhibit allowed the visitor to rotate three-sided turnstyles containing artifacts and images to create one large image of North Carolina's prehistoric creatures.
