Ojo Caliente Hot Springs, Taos, New Mexico, 2005, End of Birthing the Future Symposium II a cherished memory, by Pilar When at the end of our 2005 Birthing the Future Symposium a newly bonded Birthing Tribe dispersed to return to our homes across the country and the world, nine remaining participant drove to Ojo Caliente, to further celebrate Life in the warm embrace of mineral baths. First we entered an outside iron pool enclosed in rocks: While gentle waters caressed their souls Suzanne Arms, our tribe leader and Keith Roberts --carpenter, welder, massage therapist, Grand father Doula, and photographer artist-- were talking, envisioning artistic college tours to proclaim the glory of Birth. I then approached David Rodgers bodyworker-healer, artist, who had sculpted my head that morning, to ask him to float in my arms under stars he well knows for I perceive him as a true Magi: carrier of DNA codes to orients Birth and Death Sanctuaries to celestial portals that will open new dimensions of consciousness for our human journey! However before asking David to float I saw Jeanna Lurie the youngest of our bunch approach us. (Jeanna is a whole-birthing yoga instructor and mindful young mother) I decided to rather offer her the treat. She graciously accepted allowing herself to float supported by David and I She started to slowly enter deeper and deeper bliss. stars blinked, time expanded: while Jeanna inwardly traveled to shamanic trance. a moist mist the color of the Milky Way seemed to surround us as we continued this collective creation of healing Space. With very conscious and strong pressure David was now dancing the magic of his bodywork that truly sculpts Life, that actually moves bones, when Inez, not really aware of the depth of our bliss, called from afar to ask me to follow her to try other pools, with other minerals like arsenic and soda (?) I decided to go with her and the rest of our group to yonder waters, many indoors and outdoors tanks where we danced and sung for a long, long time. On our way back to the pool of iron I was surprised to see David and Jeanna just a few inches away from where I had left them over an hour before! fully "en-wraptured" in a thick bubble of bliss. I decided to join them again and bid a quiet goodbye to Inez: I felt summoned by the floating face of Jeanna to be there when she would finish her inward journey. The Silence was as clear as diamond. To enter that silence became a sacred journey. Slowly, gently, over an eternity I finally arrived, invited by David's eyes. And eventually, we both brought Jeanna back, in the circle of our arms, like a New Born Child. That is the day the three of us discovered Watsu. Now here are some clear thoughts I am feeling for the implications of this great discovery: 1.) Deep trance states that happen in total relaxation, allow highest somatic healing changes to take place. Here lies the shamanic doorway to miracles! 2) Water is an incredible media for this. 3) Couples (the bringing together of the male and female polarities as healing teams) can add new dimensions to the redemptive work of healing ourselves and our bodies. David, would you like to comment on these implications? A piece I wish to add to is that I the ancient midwives of Belize practice forms of healing bodywork to prepare women for birth, even before conception would take place.
